* U18 (High School) Division has a shortened season in the fall (seeding round, 1 game per week, and playoffs) between September and mid-November in order to be finished for players to try out for their high school teams. There will be a break from mid-November to January to allow for high school try-outs. Those high school players who are not playing high school basketball, may play in the Winter season. They must register again in late November. We will accept registrations for the winter season from players who did not play in the fall. We encourage those who have graduated from high school to play in one of the many adult leagues throughout Calgary.
Players born between September 1 - December 31, 2006 must provide proof of full-time high school status (i.e. student timetable).
The winter season of Girls U18 will be a 3v3 league, with team rosters of 4-5 players. Calwest provides weekly practices and CMBA will run five 3v3 tournaments. Teams will play three 13-minute games at each tournament.
Please Note - If you are U15-aged player, in high school, and plan on playing for your high school team, you must register for the U18 High School division (Sept-Nov season only). ASAA rules prohibit players to play for another club/organization while playing high school basketball. Please contact the registrar at registrarcalwest@gmail.com for registration instructions.
Uniform return policy: Uniforms are to be returned undamaged at the end of the season. If uniforms are not returned or are returned in a damaged state, a $100 charge will be added to your credit card.
Fee Discount for Large Families: Families with 3 or more children registered in Calwest will pay full fees for 2 children and receive a 50% discount on fees for additional children. The 50% discount will be applied to the lowest-priced fee(s) among the entire family.
Residency: Please ensure you reside within Calwest's boundaries by referring to the "Boundaries" section of this website. If you do not live within these boundaries, please use CMBA's map to determine which Calgary Minor Basketball Association zone you should be registering in: http://cmba.ab.ca/content/cmba-zones . Calwest will not accept registrations from out of area players.
Financial Assistance: Calwest requires families to fully pay our registration fees up front; we will subsequently refund you the amount of any financial assistance that is awarded.

2024-2025 Additional Fees
At this time all teams are guaranteed one practice per week. Should space become available, we will offer a second practice per week to the coaches starting from the top team in each age group and working our way down. If accepted and agreed upon by the entire team, each player on that team will be required to pay an additional $15-$45 (U11, U13 and U15) or $15-$30 (U18 High School). The amount varies based on how many extra practice times are given. The additional fee will not be required until evaluations have been completed and we know if we have gym availability.
We feel that structuring the fees this way is more equitable as the cost of the additional gym time required for a second practice will not be borne by the players practicing only once per week.
U11 through U18's will also be charged a $20 evaluation fee, which is collected at evaluations.
2024-2025 Refund policy
As a not-for-profit organization that runs on a very tight budget, it is necessary to adopt the following policies for withdrawals. Notice of withdrawal must be made directly to the Registrar, treasurer, age group coordinator, and coach. If you qualify for a refund, please send an email with the player's name and age and reason for withdrawal to Barb Marks at registrarcalwest@gmail.com and Ybeth Soriano at ybeth.soriano@yahoo.com . Refunds, less the withdrawal fee, will be sent as soon as the players uniform has been returned to the equipment coordinator.
Refunds:
To withdraw from the program and receive a full refund (less a $50 admin fee) notice must be given 3 days or more prior to the start of evaluations (i.e. if evaluations start on September 10, notice of withdrawal must be received by September 7 at the latest).
Withdrawals from the program 2 days or less prior to the start of evaluations through to the end of evaluations will receive a partial refund of 50% of fees paid (i.e. if evaluations run from September 10-17, any withdrawals from Sept 8-17 will only be eligible for a 50% refund).
Withdrawals after evaluations have been completed will not be considered for a refund.
Withdrawals from the Tykes program must be made prior to September 22nd in order to receive a full refund (less $50 admin fee). Withdrawals after this date will not be considered for a refund.
The only exceptions to this policy would be for those players that are found to be medically unable to continue in the program (backed by a doctor's note), or receive the approval of the Calwest Executive. Practice nights / times/ and locations cannot be confirmed until after evaluations have been completed and teams have been set (usually by the end of the third week of September). We understand that some children are involved in multiple activities, however, conflicts with these other activities do not qualify as an exception. Expectations are that if you sign up for basketball, that it will be a priority among these other activities. Coaches and teammates rely on everyone being present for practices and games and it’s not fair to them if your family can’t commit. If you can’t commit to this, then we recommend not signing up for Calwest.
Proof of Age and Designated Age Groups
All players new to Calwest, as well as first year U11 players must provide proof of age (birth certificate, passport or Alberta Healthcare card) - must be uploaded during online registration. Note that proof of age is not required for Tykes.
Note that players must register in their designated age group (no "play-ups" to older age groups or "play-downs" to younger age groups) with the following exceptions:
The only permissible case of "play-downs" is that of Grade 9 students who are one year older than the U15 age limit (born 2009). These players may register in the U15 age group. Contact the registrar at registrarcalwest@gmail.com for registration instructions.
There are 2 possible cases of permitted "play-ups":
