When can I register for the 2023-2024 season? | Online registration for U18 (High School), U15, U13, U11 and Tykes will open on June 1, 2023. |
How can I register online if my email has changed from last year? | Please do not create a new registration account if you registered any of your children last year. Rather, login with your old credentials/email and update your email address under "My Account". Only create a new account if your family is new to Calwest. |
When does the season start? | For U11, U13 and U15 - evaluations will start after the long weekend in September. You will need to go to 2-3 evaluations before teams are made. Practices will start around the last week of September - most teams will practice once per week, while the first and second teams in each age group generally practice twice per week. The games will start on the Saturday after the Thanksgiving weekend. U18 High School - evaluations will be in early September. High School seeding rounds will start on approximately the third week of September. Tykes start at the end of September. |
When will practices be? | We won't know your child's practice schedule until all teams are made and gyms/practices are assigned. Your coach will submit one day that doesn't work for them and then it will be based on gym availability. The practice day could change from week to week although we try to keep as much consistency as possible. Note that no refunds will be given if a child must withdraw due to conflicts with other activities. |
Do we practice and have games every week until the beginning of March? | No. The season will be on hold (no practices or games) from mid-December until mid-January. There will be no games on the Remembrance Day and Family Day long weekends. The season will wrap up on either the last Saturday in February or first Saturday in March unless you are going to provincials. |
Can my child play on his/her friend's team? | We only accept friend requests for Tykes - please email the registrar. Teams for U11, U13, U15 and High School are set based on the results of our evaluations. |
If Calwest is full, can I register my child with another zone? | Calgary Minor Basketball rules state that zones must give priority to players residing within their boundaries. Once another zone's registration period for their in-boundary players is over, you may contact their registrar to see if they have space for you child. Please do not register without first checking with the other zone's registrar. |
Can my child play outside of his/her designated age group? | Note that players must register in their designated age group (no "play-ups" to older age groups or "play-downs" to younger age groups) with the following exceptions: The only permissible case of "play-downs" is that of Grade 9 students who are one year older than the U15 age limit. These players may register in U15 - contact the registrar for registration instructions at registrarcalwest@gmail.com . There are 2 possible cases of permitted "play-ups":
